Pre-School Room (3-5 Years)

The Pre-School room is a large space which is carefully designed and planned to make it easily accessible for our children aged 3-4 years. The multiple areas and resources encourages children to explore, be imaginative, be active in their learning and to think creatively. Children can freely choose what they would like to play with by selecting their own resources and setting up their own area or activity, promoting confidence, critical thinking and independence.


Children are encouraged to participate in all elements of nursery life, this includes setting the tables at meal times, self serving at lunch times, selecting and making their own high tea along with guided support when pouring their own drinks. This also promotes individual choice for each child.


Throughout the child's time in the Pre-School room they will be preparing for school by developing

many transferable skills such as:

  • Pre-Phonics
  • Forming different relationships with peers
  • Managing their self care such as putting shoes and coats on
  • Developing their communication skills
  • Learning to form letters of their name
  • Encouraged to find their name card 
  • Pen control
  • Letter and sound recognition

We have strong transitions to all schools and a great working partnership with teachers and welcome them in to visit before the children go to school.

Children have independent choice as to whether they would like to play indoors or outdoors, with the use of our free flow system. All resources that are inside are also available outside.


Our extensive outdoor grassland area consists of:

  • Woodland area
  • Mud kitchen
  • Story area
  • Swings and slides
  • Music area
  • Sand and water areas
  • Mini beasts area
  • Grow your own fruit and veg areas
  • Large construction area
  • Fully fitted outdoor wooden cottage attached to an imagination garden
  • Hay bales


Our large outdoor patio area consists of:

  • Large variety of sports equipment
  • Construction facilities
  • Sand and water area

Deputy Manager and Pre-School Room Leader and SENCO - Gemma

With over 16 years experience in childcare, and 16 years at Greyfell Academy, Gemma is our Deputy Manager and Pre-School Room Leader.

Qualifications include:

-Level 3 in Childcare

-Level 5 in Childcare

-  Level 3 Special educational needs coordinator in early years settings 

- Early Years making sense of autism 

- Autism and ADHD in girls 

- Sensory learning

-Paediatric First aid

-First aid at work

-Level 2 Food Hygiene

With under 2 years experience, Lucie is our Nursery Practitioner.

Nursery Assistant - Callie

With under 2 years experience, Callie is our Nursery Practitioner.
