Special Educational Needs Coordinator & Special Needs Care

At Greyfell Academy, we respect that all children are individuals and that each child has their own individual needs.

Our designed Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) is Gemma Holmes who is also our Deputy Manager and Pre-School Room Leader. Gemma has supported many different children with various special educational needs throughout the last 7 years. Gemma holds a Level 3 in Early Years Special Educational Needs, has completed all Dingley's Promise SEN training and regularly attends training to further her development and strengthen her knowledge. In addition, over half our team have a level of SENCO training which is refreshed regularly.

Gemma advises, supports and works closely with colleagues, the child's key person and Parents/Carers. Parents/Carers are regularly invited to meetings for updates on their child's developments and input into future actions. Gemma has worked with various outside agencies and encourages them to come to the setting when needed to give further training to support Parents/Carers and our team. Some examples of this include: Stage 1 Makaton for Parents/Carers and all of our team as well as Kirklees hearing impairment has been delivered.

We believe that all children should and needs to be supported to thrive throughout their day at Greyfell Academy with a positive learning experience. We recognise that some children require guidance and we follow a graduated approach to help them fulfil to their highest potential.
